A place can alter you. It can become as synonymous with a moment in time as a particular piece of music. It is often the sound of a place that makes a big impression on me, and that is something that I try to hold in my mind while I paint. I work from photos, rather than in situ, and often I return to photos from many years ago, once the memories have become layered on the space.
